Change of Status to F-1

If you want to pursue full-time studies in the U.S. and you are currently in non-F-1 status, you will need to change to an F-1 student status.

For instance, students accepted to Sierra States University who are in B1/B2 or F-2 status must have an approved change of status to F-1 before matriculated to Sierra States University. You may contact our P/DSO right after your acceptance in an attempt to discuss your plans for change of status.

Currently, there are two options to file a change of status. First, a student may file a change of status application to the USCIS without departing the U.S. This process can take up to 4 months to receive a change of status. Second, a student can leave the U.S. and apply for a new visa at a U.S. consulate and re-enter the U.S. This process is quicker than changing your status in the U.S. However, you may encounter visa processing delays.

F-1 Student Transfer

F-1 student may transfer from one SEVIS approved school to another SEVIS approved school. This can happen when both schools update student’s record in SEVIS system.

When the student completes the application process and obtain acceptance letter, it is student’s responsibility to notify the current institution of your intent to transfer to Sierra States University. The student must fill out the I-20 transfer form and have that filled out by the current institution and submit it to Sierra States University.
